Back to Normal

or as normal as it gets with multiple allergies. I am now itch free, swelling free and only have to follow my usual avoidance of certain foods, medications and plants.

Life is good. And I am still not allergic to chocolate so life is very good.

Getting a swelled head about allergy control

Well, there I was feeling smug that I had my allergies identified and under control by limiting exposure, and diet when I caught a virus my son brought home. The virus was fairly mild, a few aches and fever and rash. I decided to take an advil prior to sleeping since the aches seemed a little worse at night.

It took me several days to figure out that the horrible itchy rash, and the swollen face were an allergy. But to what? Well, it turns out I am now newly allergic to ibuprofen.

What a pain!

The rash and swelling are still here but not spreading as fast now that I have stopped taking the culprit. A trip to the emergency room and one shot later and I can now look forward to only a few weeks of itchiness and months of residual rash (if my previous rashes from sulfa and dial soap are any clue).

Allergic reactions to Blog

Several people who read the blog reacted 'rashly' and assumed that they were the 'one' mentioned in the blog entries. It wasn't you! You weren't even there. But now 'you' have been mentioned in the blog. Do you feel better? or worse?

Life is like a box of chocolates

Full of things I am allergic to! One of my 'friends' has decided to offer me things I can't eat every time we happen to go to the same training or meeting together. She also helps herself to large hands full of whatever snack I have brought for myself, all the while complaining that 'it' isn't on her restricted diet for some mystery ailment that she doesn't wish to disclose. The list of forbidden foods seems to mutate each week.

While eating something I made with corn, rice and tapioca flour, she complained about how she can't eat corn. I had told her what was in the snack. She just didn't seem to take it in at the same rate as she was taking in my snack.

The world is contagious

Everybody is catching colds or flu or some sort of ickyness so I am cutting back on the allergy meds so that my hyperactive immune system is sure to keep me from catching any of the nastiness that is going around. So far so good.

My eyes are itchy but I am not sick. It worked last year and the year before so hoping for this year too. I can't get the flu shots because I am allergic to chicken egg whites and guess how they grow the flu shot stuff.

Read a book recently that talks about allergies

It isn't about allergies. It is about Autism, but it does talk about how food allergies can affect a person with autism's behavior.

The book: Nourishing Hope for Autism: Nutrition Intervention for Healing our Children, by Julie Matthews

Most of the book is about autism, environment, nutrition, biochemistry, etc.

Yay its raining today.

The sneezing from yesterday is gone. The rain has washed all that pollen out of the air.

Of course that means the grass will be rocketing into bloom tomorrow or the next day and I will be back to sneezing.

I am making some yummy wheat-free, soy-free, dairy-free blueberry muffins this afternoon.

Allergic to the Dentist

My dentist forgot about my latex allergy. I was wondering why my throat was itching/tickling after a few minutes. By the time I was heading out of the office I was coughing (too much itching and irritation and swelling.) I have since switched dentists (Several mistakes each visit started to make me very nervous.)

Even though I reminded him of my allergy when I arrived, he forgot during the appointment. So I became allergic to his practice. The new dentist is very careful. All through the visit he kept mentioning to the assistant about allergies and they were bantering about it back and forth. The assistant asked if she can get workmans comp if she becomes allergic to work.
